It's tough for the Australian squad to set fresh records.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has won seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the peak baggers, are what's still available for a squad that has achieved everything.

It needed as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the bowling attack that have represented Australia over five decades.

It's challenging for their batsmen to possess a record if not afforded the opportunity.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to deliver her newest gem.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India momentarily interrupted the winning streak.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She made sure her country would not come up short.

If this newest brilliant performance topped that previous effort is debatable.

Many contend the case for final game tension. Different voices suggest with the difficulty that comes when facing a record target and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's definite is this century was far harder to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she led the batting statistics, but this knock followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've observed me in training, it was a disappointing period because it seemed my form was missing completely," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your competitive nature take over and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in succeeding legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

A single came off Gaud's first delivery and from there the batsman was on her way.

"The possibility to take the field and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun that way, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her swiftest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 balls as she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three big hits.

When she was dismissed the team needed 66 more at one run per ball - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I'm happy we have the assurance to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if necessary, we are confident we can do it."

Those words will be the last Australia's opponents at this championship should hear.

Over the past five days a feeling they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this success succeeding victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

During that phase they left the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she subsequently stated she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

Yet even as she later admitted those injuries have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this tournament is likely to be her last as captain in one-day cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a global event as captain.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
